Darkness still set heavy over Europe…
It can still create an image of a dark time even though now it was almost 70 years ago. WWII – and you have three older brothers in service to America. One is already killed in action. Two on active duty, one of which is in training with 101st Airborne – jumping out of planes into combat. Strife, War, bad news – all easy to relate to in today’s world. But now lets do some simple addition/subtraction.
First add four years of WWII to your daily life then secondly, subtract your ability to get information via the internet. No ability; none; as in zero chance you could pop over to www.whatever and learn about your brother(s) who are actually fighting in a war for which you are too young to be involved. In fact, pretty much guaranteed that you could and would go entire weeks, with NO ability to get updated on even your own family member much less the whole war effort.
So back to the 70 year ago darkness in late 1944. The Allies had been winning some battles. Hitler was on his heels – now a well known fact. Go talk to someone alive back then and ask them how obvious this “fact” was in 1944. Better yet, ask them how much better this made them feel about their 3 now 2 brothers.
No small reason for why the Allies had been winning some battles; a flamboyant leader, pearl-handled-Colt 45-packing-larger-than-life General named Patton.
“…Patton was very famous. Newspapers, magazines and radio shows always reported Patton’s actions, whether he was greeting American troops or British nobility….Eisenhower knew the German Army was very impressed with Patton as a leader. He counted on their respect for Patton as a commander…” Quoting from GeneralPatton.org
General Patton’s next role?….Decoy! Complete with inflatable tanks which could be moved by hand; cardboard cutouts; fake planes, dummy troop movements, etc. A military operation carefully planned out by the name of Operation Quicksilver. Allied leadership knew this was a critical strategy if they were to overcome Hitler and succeed on D-Day; the real operation known as “Operation Overlord”.
Why did it work?
Because it is always better to present an opponent with “TMI” – Too Much Information. The best way to disguise or even completely hide the real point of attack is to provide multiple streams of information. Clarity…well, it Clarifies! When possible, muddy the message and make it hard to see clearly and an opponent will have to fight through.
Sound familiar? Sound anything like your story; your life? Does mine!
I am trying to connect with you here. Connect with “The Story” in which Your Story can have more than just 20 Clear Days.
“…We find ourselves in the middle of a story that is sometimes wonderful, sometimes awful, often a confusing mixture of both, and we haven’t a clue how to make sense of it all. It’s like we’re holding in our hands some pages torn out of a book. These pages are the days of our lives. Fragments of a story. They seem important, or at least we long to know they are, but what does it all mean? If only we could find the book that contains the rest of the story…”…” Quoting from John Eldredge Ransomed Heart Ministries
Intellect. Logic. Fact. The bottom line. All how our Father God is presented most of the time….kind of like someone trying to connect using facts instead of using something much more personal. Like saying “Vietnam occurred between the dates of 1959 and 1975” versus “Your Son is missing somewhere in Vietnam!”
God wants to connect with you.
We have an enemy who also wants to connect with us. He hates Clarity. I oppose him. He is the most consistent loser of all time, however he can be quite relentless.
best…
Cary
